PCC supports First Pinoys on Parliament Conference in Ottawa (February 2019)
The Pinoys on Parliament (POP) is an initiative of students from the University of Ottawa. It aims to bring together young Filipino-Canadian leaders across the country to discuss the issues that are significant to them – what it means to be leaders in their respective communities, and the importance of Filipino-Canadian representation in politics, government, and other professions.
With funding support from the PCC, the first POP conference was held on February 23 and 24, 2019 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Some activities also took place at the Philippine Embassy and the West Block on Parliament Hill. The theme of the event was “Lift While You Climb”, encouraging all participants to think beyond personal success in their fields by coming up with ways they can enable their communities to succeed in their chosen avenues. Some officers of the PCC also served as speakers in some panels and became mentors of some participants
One hundred delegates from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec registered for POP. The Philippine Embassy extended their support by pulling in several media outlets in Canada to broadcast the event. A crew from The Filipino Channel came from San Francisco to cover the event.
