PCC extends a hand in support of FILSAuO’s “Kamayan” event

On March 22, 2018, the Filipinos Student’s Association of the University of Ottawa (FILSAuO) held a “Kamayan” event at Assumption parish. A Kamayan event essentially is a gathering around food which is normally eaten with one’s hands (i.e. without utensils). The well attended event was meant to bring together students from the university and the Filipino community in Canada’s national capital region. In planning for the event, the executives of FILSAuO approached the board members of PCC for assistance. PCC board members generously provided assistance in spite of the fact that the PCC’s yearly budget was still being finalized (i.e. no monetary contributions from the organization yet). The board gave a number of suggestions that helped save money on the venue and the food as well as suggestions to increase community participation. Aside from attending the event, most board members also personally contributed monetarily and in kind (food items).
