Meet The Board


Lolita Shaila Safaee Chalkasra


Shaila was born in Mandaluyong city, Philippines. She immigrated to Canada two years ago, in late December 2018.

She is an international development professional and a researcher by training. She currently works as a Governance and Policy Analyst at Global Affairs Canada. She previously worked as a researcher (award program) and a consultant at Canada’s International Development Research Centre (2019-2020); as a program and research manager at the Asian Institute of Management, Philippines (2016-2019); and a Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, De La Salle University-Manila, Philippines (2008-2016).

Shaila actively volunteers in community activities as a youth mentor and devotes her time to advance diversity and inclusion, as well as newcomer integration to Canada. She actively participates in the global research community investigating the impact and responses to global climate change in developing regions.

Shaila completed a Master’s degree in Political Science from the De La Salle University-Manila, Philippines and is a PhD candidate at the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics at the University of Ottawa.
