ABOUT THE UGNAYAN FUND

The Ugnayan Fund is a grant program that serves the Filipino-Canadian community in the National Capital Region. It is available to individuals and organizations that need funding support for projects, programs, and services that promote PCC’s mission to help Filipino-Canadians meet their aspirations and needs to become an integral part of Canadian society.

The original purpose of the fund was to build a multi-purpose facility, which was to be called The Philippine Centre. The idea of a centre was launched and promoted by the former Philippine Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency, Mr. Francisco Benedicto. According to him, the Philippine Centre would serve as a facility “where Filipino-Canadians can share happy moments together in social, civic, cultural and sport gatherings”. In 1999, the PCC was incorporated to lead a community effort to raise funds for the centre. From 1999 to 2017, various fundraising activities were held to achieve PCC’s goal.

The 2018-2019 Board of Directors decided to defer the building objective as the environment has changed. The cost of building or managing a facility has risen significantly, and the Ottawa community demographic and interests have changed. The funds that were originally intended to own a Philippine Centre were then repurposed to support projects, programs, and services to benefit the Filipino-Canadian community. It is now known as the Ugnayan Fund.
