Protecting the West Philippine Sea’s Biodiversity: Voices from the Filipino Diaspora in Canada
“MANA KO, AALAGAAN KO”
The Philippine Embassy in Canada and the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary 215.1 Division are pleased to invite the Filipino community in Canada to a forum entitled “Protecting the West Philippine Sea’s Biodiversity: Voices from the Filipino Diaspora in Canada”. The forum will be held on 22 September 2023 (Friday), at 5:30 pm, at the Mindanao Hall of the Philippine Embassy.
Organized as part of celebrations of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA MO), the forum will tackle the various issues affecting the marine biodiversity of the West Philippine Sea and will provide a platform for the Filipinos in Canada to share their thoughts, experiences, and expertise on the matter.
The forum will be immediately followed by the opening of a photo exhibit entitled “Archipelagic States: Identity, Consciousness, and Law”, which was developed by the Philippine Mission to the UN in New York.
MANA MO aims to highlight the rich maritime heritage, significance, and development of the Philippines as an archipelagic nation. This year’s MANA MO theme, “Kapuluan, Kabuluhan, Kaunlaran” (Archipelago, Significance, and Development), underscores the interconnectedness between the country’s geographical makeup, its historical importance, and its journey towards development. To further amplify this year’s national theme, the Department of Foreign Affairs has adopted the sub-theme: “Setting Sails Towards Sustainability: Ocean Science for Archipelagic Philippines.”
Refreshments will be served.
