PCC staff – Ethel Maamo, Cory Mae Omega, and Kyrah Miranda with MP Rechie Valdez.

On June 12, the Liberal Filipino Caucus celebrated the first Filipino Heritage Month with a very special event held at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Organized by the Liberal Filipino Caucus, the event was a grand celebration of Filipino heritage and culture in Canada. The celebrations featured cultural performances, speeches from members of the caucus, and light refreshments. The PCC was pleased to be part of the event, contributing to the festivities with a booth to showcase the organization and its aims and objectives, and its wonderful programs and activities. Our PCC staff – Ethel Maamo, Kyrah Miranda and Cory Mae Omega – were present at the event to not only discuss the good work being undertaken by the organization but also to celebrate the Filipino culture and heritage with others. The event gave a wonderful platform for everyone to come together and embrace the Filipino spirit. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau led some members of the Liberal Filipino Caucus in giving inspiring speeches as they recognized and talked about the great contributions of Filipino-Canadians.  They also spoke about the ongoing work being done by various Filipino-Canadian associations to uplift their community, in particular, to increase their representation and address the issues faced by Filipino-Canadians in mainstream Canadian society – economically, politically, and socially. The event was a great success and indeed a feast for the eyes, too! The beautiful cultural performances, the presence of dignitaries, and other activities showcasing Philippine culture made the day extra special for everyone present. In the end, it was a beautiful event with inspiring messages, and the PCC was honored to be part of the celebrations.

PCC hopes that more of such events be organized in the future to recognize the significant role and wonderful contributions of the Filipino community in Canada.
