Healthy Aging for Filipino-Canadian Seniors: Home and Community Care Support Services
During the past event on October 4, 2023, from 1 pm to 4 pm, we Philippine Centre Canada (PCC) in partnership with the Ottawa Valley Filipino Canadian Senior Citizens’ Association (OVFCSCA) hosted another workshop on Home and Community Care Support Services (HCCSS), which was made possible through the funding support of the Employment and Social Development Canada’s (ESDC) New Horizons for Seniors Program. The workshop aimed to provide attendees with an overview of HCCSS and the services they offer to residents in the region.
The HCCSS representative, Ms Rose Gyasi, Communications Specialist, provided an engaging presentation that included an introduction to HCCSS and an overview of their services. Ms Gyasi explained how HCCSS helps patients and families, who are eligible for their services and gave an overview of care coordination. The different types of services HCCSS offers include in-home care, community support, specialized programs, palliative care, in-hospital care, and the application and admission process for long-term care. The attendees got to know more about HCCSS’ reach when Ms Gyasi showed the organization’s statistics, such as the number of patients served and the range of services provided in the Champlain area.
There were a total of 17 attendees present in person at the Carlo Acutis Hall, while an additional 9 participants joined the workshop online. This allowed for a diverse audience to benefit from the information shared by Ms. Gyasi. Throughout the workshop, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify any doubts they had regarding the services provided by HCCSS. Ms Gyasi was well-prepared and provided comprehensive answers to these inquiries, ensuring that attendees left the event with a clear understanding of how to access the support they may need in the present or future.
