Fraud Prevention Education by the Ontario Provincial Police
In 2021, 106,306 cases of fraud were reported in Canada, amounting to $380 million in total losses. With the consistent prevalence of scams and fraud, most Canadians, particularly seniors, are vulnerable to exposure to different types of fraudulent schemes. According to the Department of Justice, “Financial crimes by strangers” is one of the greatest areas of vulnerability for seniors.
The Philippine Centre Canada is working with the Ontario Provincial Police to address the issue of fraud within the Filipino-Canadian seniors’ community. Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary will deliver a fraud prevention presentation on April 1st from 2 PM to 4 PM on Zoom. The fraud prevention presentation is an activity of the Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW) project, a telephone-based community outreach program that provides social and educational activities to support isolated seniors and seniors with physical disabilities.
Although this event is part of the SCWW program, participants of all ages are welcome to join. The PCC looks forward to seeing you on April 1st at 2 PM!
